In honour of the 2024 People’s Blockade campaign, Rising Tide and EFFA are co-presenting a double-feature screening of The First Wave (2024) and Water is Life (2018).

Join us at CERES on Wednesday 11 September from 7pm for a special film event centered on climate activism and the power of community.

Come together with like-minded local people, be inspired by activists across Australia and see how you can support climate action.

Tickets are FREE but please register your RSVP, so that we can cater for you and keep you up to date with event details.

The CERES Learning Centre (Lee Street, Brunswick East) is wheelchair accessible.

Entry by donation. Donations are used to spread the word about and to encourage people to attend the People’s Blockade 2024 in Newcastle via events such as this screening.

The films

At the end of the hottest year in human history, a Rising Tide of everyday people shut down the world’s largest coal port for 32 hours. The First Wave is a short film covering the epic ‘People’s Blockade 2023’, with footage from the beach, water, and sky, with Rising Tide organisers and blockaders detailing how this historic event came together.

Our fight to protect country from fracking in the NT. Water is Life is a documentary about the Aboriginal communities fighting against fracking plans in the NT. They learn from First Nations brothers and sisters in the US who are suffering the effects of greedy gas companies and call on you to join their fight.

Thanks to Seed Indigenous Youth Climate Network for the screening of Water is Life.
