Join curator Iwao Nagasaki in this special talk event, held as part of the 'Tailored With Love: Children’s Kimono Throughout Generations' exhibition at The Japan Foundation, Sydney. Take a deeper dive into the show as Professor Nagasaki guides attendees through the kimono and artefacts on display, with items ranging from the Edo Period to modern times. He will discuss the different types of children’s kimono, hitotsumi and yotsumi, which are adjusted to reflect a child’s growth. The talk will also cover the unique characteristics of children’s kimono, along with what sets them apart from kimono for adults.
Following the talk, attendees will have the opportunity to ask Professor Nagasaki questions in a 10-minute Q&A session.
Please note the talk will be conducted in both Japanese and English, with the assistance of an interpreter. The in-person talk event will also be available to view online via livestream on the JPF Sydney Facebook page.
'Tailored With Love: Children’s Kimono Throughout Generations' showcases traditional Japanese children’s clothing and artefacts, dating from the Edo period to the early Showa period. Curated by Iwao Nagasaki, this exhibition guides viewers through 200 years of children’s kimono styles, each representative of the eras during which they were crafted.
