Join us for an evening with Archibald Prize winning artist Tony Costa, whose portrait of Professor Veena Sahajwalla is displayed in Salon des Refusés 2024, at David Roche Gallery.

Tony Costa studied at the Julian Ashton Art School with further instruction under influential Hungarian artist Desiderius Orban in the late 1970s, and postgraduate studies at the City Art Institute Sydney in 1986. In 1988 he was selected to participate in the Triangle Artists Workshop in Pine Plains, New York.

A painter of both landscapes and portraits, he has exhibited in numerous solo exhibitions and has been a shortlisted finalist in nationally significant art prizes including the Wynne Prize for Landscape painting, the Sulman Prize and the Dobell Prize for drawing at the Art Gallery of NSW; the Doug Moran Portrait prize, the Adelaide Perry Prize for Drawing, and the Kilgour Portrait prize. Tony won the Paddington Art Prize for Landscape painting in 2014, and in 2019 he won the coveted Archibald Prize with a portrait of Australian artist and Zen buddhist Lindy Lee.
