Writer/director Giovanni's directorial debut feature shot entirely on iPhone 8+ is a portrait of an artist in an interior. A retired film director locked up in a suburban Rome apartment attempts to write a new movie, his eternal opera zero.
In an attempt to write his new film, Nino, a seventy-year-old director now on the verge of sunset, loses himself in an artistic and personal delirium, in which the memories and characters of a life mix with those of the story he wants to tell, generating in him a short circuit in which he can no longer distinguish between truth and fiction.
Giorgio Colangeli, who plays the character of Nino, gives body and soul to the film: He knows how to be tragic, comical, cynical, desperate, and grotesque: and he is always a great leading actor.
As for the secondary roles, Basso decided to rely on lesser-known but highly charismatic faces, such as Rosanna Gentili in the role of Nino's escort/wife, Roberto Andreucci in the role of the screenwriter De Paolis and Paolo Gasparini in the role of the superficial actor Giovanni Marine.
For the choice of music, everything was due to the discovery of a film entitled The Sexual Revolution by Riccardo Ghione, from 1968, whose music was composed by maestro Teo Usuelli . Having fallen in love with the soundtrack composed for this film, Basso decided to acquire the rights and use it for Mindemic (Opera Zero), as it fully captured what he had been looking for for a long time.
