Come immerse yourself in a special NAIDOC event at the Brunswick Picture House, Bundjalung country. Presented by local dance troupe Babilali Dancers, this event steps up NAIDOC to a new level, showcasing the best of indigenous culture through an experience of dance, film, music and art. It kicks off with a gallery viewing of some of the most talented painters from around the region such as Nickolla Clark, Kiaron Assan and Dhinawan Baker. The hall will be filled with projections of country accompanied by a dreamtime soundscape; you will be led through the hall along the songlines that lead to a traditional gunya on the stage.
We move to a selection of award winning films by talented local indigenous filmmakers Jahvis Loveday (Something Deadly) and Coedie McCarthy, including Bangay Lore, Djalbuyan Nahra and the announcement of a new film.
After the film screenings, we are delighted to present a modern day corroboree. Joining us is the Goodjiburra Slabb family of Fingal Head coming to dance, followed by the Babilali dance troupe.
We finish off the night with two music sets by talented local indigenous hip-hop artists The Boy of Many Colors and headlining the event is JK-47.
Come and support an unmissable night of talented indigenous artists across many platforms, finding their fire and celebrating our rich heritage within the Bundjalung nation.
