Perth Symphonic Chorus continues a 280-year-old tradition of performing G. F. Handel’s timeless oratorio, Messiah. A Christmas ritual in Perth, always delights audiences with spectacular singing and orchestral playing. Soloists Emma Matthews AM, Fiona Campbell, Paul O'Neill and Teddy Tahu Rhodes join with Perth Symphonic Chorus to present well-loved pieces like The Trumpet Shall Sound, the Amen Chorus and the timeless Hallelujah Chorus. The Perth Baroque Orchestra is led by baroque specialist Paul Wright in a performance conducted by James Pratt.

Handel’s musical setting of the life of Jesus Christ is part narrative, part meditation. The chorus and vocal soloists lead us on a journey in three parts; prophecy and promise, praise and passion, eternity and exultation.

Unifying these parts are biblical cosmic themes of heaven and earth. Whether a darkness covering the earth, nations furiously raging, or eternal life played by the apostle Paul’s abstractly beautiful trumpet - Messiah invites us to picture these scenes in our own mind and attach our own meaning. Our interpretation is as endless as the cosmos.
