Come down a rabbit hole to a Wonderland... of sorts.
A captivating blend of wordplay, magic realism, projection and puppetry, Pear-Shaped is a deliciously dark new comedy about growing up, growing down, and everything in between.
23-year-old Frankie is struggling with their graduating design project. Not only is their director a Virgo, they’ve also been allocated an eerily personal childhood story - ‘Alice in Wonderland’. Frankie hopes that a box of old costumes will inspire some ideas, but when their sister Kayla drops it off, they’re instead sent spiraling down a rabbit hole of memories they’d rather forget…
An entirely new story from Miranda Middleton and Ziggy Resnick, ‘Pear-Shaped' adapts elements of Lewis Carroll’s classic story to chart the relationship between two sisters, and the eating disorder that comes between them. With incredible design by Grace Deacon and Aron Murray, and told with humour and heart, this world premiere production explores one family’s experience of what happens when food – a symbol of culture, tradition, connection, and love – becomes the enemy.
“How does Alice leave Wonderland, when Wonderland wants Alice to stay?”
