A mythological tale, The Love of the Nightingale, explores the love of two sisters, truth, and betrayal.

This stylised work written by Timberlake Wertenbaker is a contemporary feminist adaptation of a Greek myth. It follows Philomele, a bright and curious woman who battles tyranny and crosses oceans all for her sister.

Told in the form of a visual poem, Simran Giria delves deep into the haunting beauty of Wetenbaker’s gentle and horrific words. Through striking imagery, The Love of the Nightingale reveals a world that is not as far from us as we would like to believe. It manipulates theatrical form with elements of poetry, puppetry and chorus, using stylised movement to evoke the songs from all those who have been ignored.

Beautiful, wild, and mysterious- this is a world that is both comforting and on edge. Anything can happen. A looming cloud. Darkness and light. Foreshadowing and underlying forces lead to a final act. And with this act, the world retaliates and revolutionizes.
Everything shifts.

Can our voices give us the power to fight injustice and reveal the secrets of the world?
